IB Vestmannaeyjar vs Hafnarfjordur on 12 April
The 2024 Torneo Apertura proved to be a fierce battle, with eleven clubs separated by just five points in the final standings. Deportivo Toluca secured the top position, accumulating 35 points, while Club América, the reigning champions, finished fifth with 30 points.
In the Liguilla, or playoffs, Toluca was eliminated in the quarterfinals by América, who later advanced to the final. There, they defeated Monterrey in a penalty shootout after a 3–3 aggregate draw. This victory marked América’s third consecutive title—a rare three-peat in the modern era of Mexican football.
The Torneo Clausura followed a similar pattern of high competitiveness. The regular season ended with a three-way tie at the top: Cruz Azul, Monterrey, and León each finished with 33 points. Cruz Azul claimed first place due to a superior goal difference.
During the playoffs, all four quarterfinal matchups ended in draws on aggregate. América, who finished seventh, eliminated Cruz Azul in the semifinals and went on to defeat Guadalajara in the final, securing their second consecutive Clausura title.
