The 2025 Torneo Apertura, the first half of Costa Rica’s top-tier Primera División season, concluded on Sunday, December 21. L.D. Alajuelense secured the title, adding their 31st first-division championship.
The final was played over two legs. Alajuelense defeated Herediano 2–0 on aggregate. The first leg finished 1–0, and Alajuelense clinched the trophy with another 1–0 win in the second leg.
Both teams had already qualified for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup. However, Alajuelense’s victory meant that the second Champions Cup spot reserved for the Apertura champion would not be reassigned. Instead, Herediano kept their place as the overall runner-up.
The Clausura 2026 tournament will determine the remaining two Champions Cup berths from Costa Rica. The champion and the runner‑up of the Clausura will qualify. The Clausura is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
