TYLOO vs JiJieHao on 13 May
The match between Cristal and Junior ended in a goalless draw. As a result, the Colombian side secured a spot in the playoffs. They finished as the runners-up in Group D of the Copa Libertadores 2025. Sporting Cristal, in contrast, were eliminated from international competition entirely, finishing at the bottom of the group with four points.
Match summary
In the first half, Cristal tried to dominate the game but rarely tested the opposing goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Junior created the most dangerous chances. Despite their efforts, neither team managed to open the scoring before the break. After the restart, the match continued to be evenly contested, though the Colombian team grew increasingly threatening on the counterattack. However, their attempts were consistently neutralized by the home side’s defense. With the draw confirmed, Junior advanced with eight points—just one less than group winners Universidad de Chile, who finished with nine. The Chilean side secured their spot by defeating Botafogo 2–0 in the other Group D match, sending the current Libertadores champions home with five points.
Universitario, who had already been eliminated, beat Lanús 1–0 but ended their campaign with four points—the same total as Cristal. League winners Barcelona de Guayaquil and defending champions Liga de Quito also failed to progress beyond the group stage. Independiente del Valle were eliminated in the qualifying rounds, while El Nacional and Universidad Católica did not even qualify for the group stage.
The Clausura tournament is still at stake for Cristal
Despite their continental exit, Sporting Cristal still have a chance in the domestic Clausura tournament. This weekend, they will face Atlético Grau in the Peruvian Primera División, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (Peruvian time).
